Scoliosis, Driving, Muscle Spasms & Pain

Image
It all started off so well! Monday morning, get up, start the week with a great breakfast, cup of coffee, let the chickens out into their coop, grab the diary and work out the whens, wheres and whys of what needs to be done. So off I went into town as I had to post some Mobi orders out to Slovakia, so I parked outside the post office in my trusty diasbled spot, walked to the shop to buy my brown wrapping paper and bubble wrap, went to the bank and paid some bills - everything going OK so far, I have not done anything particularly strenuous, the bags I was carrying were not heavy and I was wearing flat shoes (as always!). I spent a good 20 minutes wrapping the items I needed to post and then a further 30 minutes in the queue waiting to send them! I then went from there and did some supermarket shopping, again nothing strenuous or stressful, I didn´t rush around the supermarket or lift anything over heavy, however, I was in and out of the car yesterday so I don´t think this helped, ...

Must sort this back ache out

Image
I've got a new sort of back ache as well as the rib bump one just now, it's right below my shoulder blades in the middle, every time I wake up in the morning. Plus my neck hurts. And quite often I wake up with a numb arm. I wonder they're all scoli things? I have a habit of blaming everything on scoliosis though...think I will go to the GP and see if I can get something done. But what treatments are there for adults, that you don't have to pay for, other than pain killers? Will they think I'm malingering or trying to jump on some sort of bandwagon because of Laura's surgery? I once went to a chiropractor but it cost £££ and all I got was an X ray taken at a dodgy angle that made me look like I had a 90 degree curve and didn't even show me in sexy shoes like the one on the right. The treatment for it all consisted of trying to wrench my head off my body (which wasn't having any - loud popping and crunching noises told me that), while I sat with a silly g...

Tired from Scoliosis

ScoliosisNutty - a place for friends, support and research I have had a slow week because I have spent a lot of that in a great deal of pain, probably because I was focusing on all my work (and at the time it was working) and now I have stopped because the work load is now less, I am suffering. The fact the weather turned awful last week didn't help, I suppose. It was really cold and raining every day, and on top of that we had 70mph winds!! The cold really affects my Scoliosis and then I get tense and hold my body in a different way and consequently my shoulders end up in bad knots, this does not help me as my work is on a laptop computer so I find I am always tense in my shoulders, despite being conscious of relaxing them! On Saturday night we stayed at friend's house and slept on a mattress (see Scoliosis mattresses , like the one I have) on the floor, I woke Sunday morning and my shoulder blade had siezed or done something along those lines as the pain is really annoying me...

Recovering

Happy Easter everyone and I hope you are enjoying your day off (those in the UK) - I have finally just recovered from the party that I organised for my husband to celebrate his 40th birthday - we had a band, DJs and some catering - the sun was shining and everyone had a wonderful weekend with us. It has taken its toll on my back though, I was busy leading upto the party, organising, weeding, painting and the list went on - by the time the party came around I was knackered! I wore my heat pads all weekend to keep me going, I couldn't keep up with everyone else and had to keep laying down on the bed and resting my back, I have noticed over the years that my back gives up much earlier than it ever used to - is that just age? It is my shoulders that are giving me grief this week! I keep getting spasms but it is every few seconds, yesterday was particularly bad and it stopped me from doing the gardening that I planned (Chris dug the hole instead ;), Chris did give my shoulders a few squ...

Over Compensation Syndrome!

Well, I read many articles by Elizabeth Mina that make so much sense and I now find that I am referring to a lot of what she said in her articles and applying it to my every day life. Over Compensation Syndrome I am in the middle of organising a 40th birthday party for my husband Chris and we have 50 people arriving at our house on Friday lunch time, camping in the garden, making fires and staying until Sunday! As you can imagine this has been quite a lot of work added to my usual schedule of work, cleaning the house, looking after the cats, tending to the garden, washing, ironing........yawn!! I am absolutely exhausted and I do not know how my back has managed to keep up the pace without flooring me and forcing me to stay in bed for a while - overcompensation syndrome is springing to mind again ;) I am feeling it again in my shoulders, they are so tight and painful I am struggling to find a comfortable place to work - I am looking forward to the summer so I can swim again and release ...

Having a good Scoliosis day

So, did all you Mothers have a nice Mother's Day and receive some nice gifts? I hope so, I sent my Mother and Mother-in-law some Fresias this year and they were overjoyed with them. These past few days I have been feeling a lot better - the weather is warming up and I think this is the reason why - the damp in the house is less so the bed is much better and I am sleeping better because it is not so bitterly cold - I have everything else on my bed except heat - perhaps I should think about having that installed as well! I have been out in the garden to help me get some exercise but I am not sure if weeding is the best thing considering I have only just started walking around better - but hey ho - overcompensation syndrome hits me again! I find it strange because my back is feeling better but my shoulders are in agony - all the strain ends up on my shoulders because the middle of me is fused together so the pressure has to end up somewhere - since we have moved house I have lost my ...

Shoulder Pain today

I woke up this morning bright and early - 8:30am, that is really early for me! To my disgust, my shoulders were giving off small, short spasms - this hurts really bad but only for a few split seconds, however, it comes and goes frequently. I miss my masseuse since we moved house, she is 30 minutes away and will not travel all this way to give me a massage (I think I may have to try and ask her again and offer more than what I usually pay!) - she used to come once a month and get rid of all the knots in my shoulders - they seem to take more strain because of the harrington rod, all the tension and weight is on my shoulders and over time the muscles start to hurt. I need to start my Yoga again I think and this may help a bit more, I do find that all these problems are heightened in the winter compared to the summer. Do you get shoulder spasms from your Scoliosis? Send me your thoughts on this I am off to try and do some more gardening - hasta pronto!
