Prevention vs Treatment

On the group we have been talking about prevention vs treatment for Scoliosis which opened up a whole new discussion thread, I wanted to share those thoughts and chats here, we discussed gene therapies, where does Scoliosis come from, do we know yet? The discussion started as a result of the social networking campaign that is circulating for breast cance to raise awareness about breast cancer by asking women to update their status with one simple word: the color of their bra. The email message going around stated "some fun is going on.... just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. And send this on to ONLY girls no men .... It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of cancer awareness. So, the question is, why is Scoliosis more common in females than males, what is the cause and why is treatment more common than the prevention of Scoliosis? "Could it be that it affects more women than men because of our puberty patterns such...

Scoliosis & DNA Testing?

Sanford Health have recently released a new test for Scoliosis testing, this new test is being offered at Sanford Health (Sioux Falls, SD) to help identify young girls at risk for developing severe scoliosis. Scoliosis treatment can bring great challenges. In many cases, adolescent girls with small curves are treated with braces, sometimes for many years. The braces are expensive, uncomfortable and are frequently psychologically challenging at a time when teenagers are acutely aware of their appearance. In the past, physicians frequently recommended bracing for all patients with scoliosis, even though only a few had curves that would ultimately get larger. Previously, doctors could not identify which patients were at the highest risk for developing severe scoliosis. ScoliScore™ AIS Prognostic Test from Axial Biotech, Inc. Today, there is an alternative, the ScoliScore™ AIS Prognostic Test, a predictive test that provides increased peace of mind for patients, their families and clinica...
