Power Plate Part II & III

Image
As some of you know I started with the Power Plate 3 weeks ago (February 28th 2012) and I am loving it! I feel fitter and my body is toning which is what I need the most, I do not particularly need to lose weight as I dropped 2 stone when Chris (my husband) died in April 2011. I do have some flabby skin which I don't like though so I want that to look better - getting ready for the beach weather - operation bikini! Last week I could feel I had done work on the power plate for 2 days afterwards, however, today I am feeling sprightly and cannot tell that I have worked out at all, the story could well be different tomorrow, will I be able to get out of bed!? Daisy from BodyBeautiful is doing a combination exercise regime with me, which includes weight loss, cellulite and toning, so we have done lots of leg work these past 2 weeks. I hate the tops of my legs so I am looking forward to seeing the transformation after 10 weeks of the power plate. I am finding that holding my positio...

Muscle Spasm and Pain

Image
Which came first, the muscle spasm or the pain? Every muscle in your body is attached to a bone, but just like the chicken and the egg, a muscle spasm can cause pain and pain can cause a muscle spasm! Often, when we experience pain a muscle spasm pulls nearby joints out of place, causing a condition known as joint sublaxation . Similarly, if a joint is sublaxated, nearby muscles may spasm in response. Does it matter which happened first? Usually, by the time pain has caused you to look for help from the doctor or therapist the cycle of pain and spasm has already begun. Pain causes spasm which pulls joints out of alignment, which more spasm and more pain! Ultimately, the body accommodates to this cycle and the muscles stay tightened in the contracted state. After two days of spasm, the muscles will adapt to their new unnatural painful state and resist relaxation. The pain may even subside a bit during this adaptation, but now the body is adjusting to the muscles and the joints that are ...

Scoliosis and falling over!

Hola As you know I have been having more Bowen treatment and I had the sacrum move done last week, unfortunately I slipped while moving out of the way for a car last week and pulled a muscle in my right hip (well I think that is what it is) On Sunday morning I got out of bed to find I could not straighten, the pain was horrendous if I even tried, so I have been walking bent over forward ever since, I have tried to bend and do some Yoga to try and just get upright but I simply cannot. I had to miss my Bowen appointment on Tuesday because there was no way I could get in the car and bounce down the coast and back, I think Bowen might have helped but right now standing and walkign around for 10 minutes is too much for me! I have cried very hard the past 2 days, not through pity because I tend not to feel sorry for myself, but through increased amounts of pain, the Sciatica is giving me grief on both legs and the fact I cannot take a deep breath without feeling it keeps me low :( Having a h...

Iggy Pop

Get this! Does yer man have scoliosis or what? I'm afraid that for me, this ad doesn't work - I can't remember the name of the product itself and all it does is make me wonder why he never got fixed when he was younger, and (sorry) how fit he looks (from the neck down)...must get a life, get back to work, or both!!

Scoliosis: Keeping on Keeping on

I didn't go to Yoga/Pilates on Thursday, I woke with awful lower back pain, a bit like I have been experiencing over the past months, I struggled to walk and had shooting pains down my legs and shooting pains going across the lumbar, I had to prop myself up when getting from A to B. There was no way I could face the drive down to Marbella and back, the car always make my pains worse, it is not just the position that car seats force you to be in but the bumps and bangs on the road. My muscles on the lower part of my back felt like they were going to go into spasm and that scares me the most because the pain is just un-bearable!!! I wrote to Dr Ayllon to tell him that I wasn't going to make it, I didn't want him or the teacher thinking I couldn't be bothered, more like I couldn't get there on my own steam! So far I have only managed to get to class once a week as every time I go to class, 2 days later I am in pain, most unusual. I appreciate that I no longer have Scol...

Bowen Therapy Part 2

Scoliosis Support Website and Group I had my second Bowen treatment today for my Scolisois and I was looking forward to it. Since starting Bowen my legs have leveled out, they were way off before and I would reckon it to be about 4cm between each leg, we did attempt to measure it but it is not easy to measure your leg lengths so we did each leg a few times and then took an average. The only part I do not like is having to lay on the table on my back, it feels like someone is pulling my spinal cord which makes me very uncomfortable and makes my back arch slightly, however, she has to do this to make sure that my legs really are the same length and she was amazed at how well my body had responded to the treatment, she was not expecting the legs to be level already! My therapist also worked on my breathing today as I have been complaining of that recently and I wake weezing, we have a damp problem which is causing spores and this is not helping my respiratory at all - time to get out the...
