Ironing & Scoliosis!

Image
Well I am sure many of you ladies and men out there with Scoliosis know all too well how ironing can effect our backs especially when lifting heavy ironing boards in and out of their storage so I wanted to share with you what I found one day when shopping and decided to try instead of my usual heavy lumpy board. As you can see from the image above I iron on my kitchen work top, the portable ironing board that I bought from IKEA is, in my opinion, the best thing since sliced bread where ironing is concerned. It is light weight to carry from A to B, I get no neck ache from using it as the work surface is the right height for me and I get no lumbar problems from having to carry it around - I LOVE IT! The image above shows you how easy this board is to manouvere and use, it is very small, but not too small that I cannot iron shirts or jeans, yes I have a lot less space than I did with my previous ironing board but for me it was about the pain issues and not the work space available. I kept...

Scoliosis: Braces and Plaster Casts

Image
Braces and Plaster Casts Orthotic management of spinal disorders dates back at least to the Middle Ages. Some of the concepts underlying those primitive devices, notably three-point forces, remain valid today. Fabrication materials have progressed from metal and leather to light weight thermoplastics allowing many new designs and a new level of comfort for the patient. Braces help control the curve as you or your child grows. These braces are sometimes prescribed post surgery, along with plaster jackets. Unfortunately for me my bone chips have not all formed a solid mass and I now have terrible problems with my donor site. There are many different braces in use today, however, they all present similar problems in finding clothing that is both comfortable and trendy! The Milwaukee Brace Developed by Drs Al Sc...

Scoliosis and Clothes Shopping

Clothes shopping for people who have Scoliosis has always been an issue, either you hide away from the public or you let it all hang out, whichever one you are you are reminded that you have Scoliosis when you go to the shops for new clothes, majority of us come home depressed. Clothes shopping with Scoliosis is a constatnt reminder that we are more curvier than most!!!! We have been discussing clothes and rib humps and scars on the group , and we have some very interesting views to clothes and Scoliosis. Unfortunately, there are many Scoliosis patients out there who are not quite as aggressive as myself as I tend to run with the attitude of "who cares what others think of me, I have Scoliosis, so what!", I wear up to date fashion and I don't let my Scoliosis dictate what I can and cannot wear to some extents, of course I don't wear what I am uncomfortable in or what does not suit me but I certainly will not shy away from going to the beach because of my lopsided-ness...
