Power Plate Part II & III

Image
As some of you know I started with the Power Plate 3 weeks ago (February 28th 2012) and I am loving it! I feel fitter and my body is toning which is what I need the most, I do not particularly need to lose weight as I dropped 2 stone when Chris (my husband) died in April 2011. I do have some flabby skin which I don't like though so I want that to look better - getting ready for the beach weather - operation bikini! Last week I could feel I had done work on the power plate for 2 days afterwards, however, today I am feeling sprightly and cannot tell that I have worked out at all, the story could well be different tomorrow, will I be able to get out of bed!? Daisy from BodyBeautiful is doing a combination exercise regime with me, which includes weight loss, cellulite and toning, so we have done lots of leg work these past 2 weeks. I hate the tops of my legs so I am looking forward to seeing the transformation after 10 weeks of the power plate. I am finding that holding my positio...

Muscle Spasm and Pain

Image
Which came first, the muscle spasm or the pain? Every muscle in your body is attached to a bone, but just like the chicken and the egg, a muscle spasm can cause pain and pain can cause a muscle spasm! Often, when we experience pain a muscle spasm pulls nearby joints out of place, causing a condition known as joint sublaxation . Similarly, if a joint is sublaxated, nearby muscles may spasm in response. Does it matter which happened first? Usually, by the time pain has caused you to look for help from the doctor or therapist the cycle of pain and spasm has already begun. Pain causes spasm which pulls joints out of alignment, which more spasm and more pain! Ultimately, the body accommodates to this cycle and the muscles stay tightened in the contracted state. After two days of spasm, the muscles will adapt to their new unnatural painful state and resist relaxation. The pain may even subside a bit during this adaptation, but now the body is adjusting to the muscles and the joints that are ...

Shoulder Pain today

I woke up this morning bright and early - 8:30am, that is really early for me! To my disgust, my shoulders were giving off small, short spasms - this hurts really bad but only for a few split seconds, however, it comes and goes frequently. I miss my masseuse since we moved house, she is 30 minutes away and will not travel all this way to give me a massage (I think I may have to try and ask her again and offer more than what I usually pay!) - she used to come once a month and get rid of all the knots in my shoulders - they seem to take more strain because of the harrington rod, all the tension and weight is on my shoulders and over time the muscles start to hurt. I need to start my Yoga again I think and this may help a bit more, I do find that all these problems are heightened in the winter compared to the summer. Do you get shoulder spasms from your Scoliosis? Send me your thoughts on this I am off to try and do some more gardening - hasta pronto!

Scoliosis pain - 14th March - 4th April 2006

I have been having yet more problems today with my right hand side hip and what I assume is the muscle having a spasm or some kind of cramp. When sitting I cannot lean my head onto my chest without a pain coming from that side of my body, the pain shoots straight up that side of me into my head which makes me pull my head back up. Driving has become more difficult than I ever expected, although I do drive an automatic car which is slightly easier but if I need to look behind me or turn around with my upper torso it becomes difficult for me. I have spent most of this week in bed again (seem to be there a lot these days), continually making sure that I try and get up every hour and attempt to stretch and even do Yoga, however, the pain when trying to get out of bed is awful, I find myself holding my back as I attempt to get up but on my way to standing it almost cripples me to stand and then I cannot get comfortable anywhere then without pain. I never used to get up every single day and ...
